Now that you are engaged in daily web conference meetings and sharing your screen with your colleagues, do you wish you could have some sort of menu that would allow you to jump effortlessly and quickly to different sections of your Powerpoint presentation in a non-linear mode to support your business case?
The Zoom* function in Powerpoint allows you to create something like a home page complete with hyperlinks to different sections of your presentation. You can now access your content without going through the whole deck.
Step 1:
In slide sorter view, right-click and select Add Section. Name that section. Click Rename. Add as many section names as you have sections you would like to access in your deck.
Step 2:
Create Section head slides in each of these newly created sections. These will precede the content slides you will create or import. Try to have these slides represent graphically each of the sections they head.
Step 3:
Create a slide that will act as your home page slide. Give it a title.
Step 4:
On this home page you have just created, select Insert/Zoom/Section Zoom then in the dialogue box, check the section head slides you would like to zoom to and Powerpoint will do the rest!
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE:
Here is an example I use to discuss how to manage financial information, images and videos in a business or scientific presentation. As a facilitator, I want to be able to skip to any of these three sections at will without showing every slide in the deck.
Step 1:
I created the following sections: Chiffres, Images and Videos then the section head slides of these three topics, slides 1, 2 and 3. Chiffres, Images et Vidéos et créé les diapositives de section 1, 2 et 3.
Step 2:
I added two content slides after the section head slides by way of example: (Slides : 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9). Note the name of these sections appear on the top left of slides 1, 4 and 7 in slide sorter view.
Step 3:
I created a home page slide (slide1) and gave it a title. The background image is optional but it does give it more impact.
Step 4:
On slide number 1, I clicked Insert/Zoom/Section Zoom and selected slides 2, 5 and 8 in the dialogue box. Powerpoint inserts the three section head slides as miniatures in my home slide. I can now format the miniatures as I would a regular image. insérer/zoom/zoom de section et sélectionné les diapositives 2, 5 et 8 dans la boite de dialogue. Powerpoint insère les 3 dispositives de section en miniature sur la diapositive d’accueil avec les liens hypertextes cliquables automatiquement. Vous pouvez modifier ces miniatures comme des images traditionnelles.
Here is my final deck in slide sorter view.
In presentation mode now from slide number 1, click on any of the three miniatures and Powerpoint will jet you to the section of your choice. Once you have used up all the slides in that section, Pwerpoint will bring you back to your home page.
You are now behind a powerful and lightning fast dashboard!
